Even more scarecrows!!!

For the avoidance of doubt, the lady at the top is bell-ringing not hanging! ;0)
The church bells sit high up in the stone spire and corresponding ropes hang down for them to be "rung" in turn. When they're not being used they're hoisted up into this chandalier-type arrangement.
The chap below her is Soulbury Sid, the resident scarecrow of the village. He is very smart, although they call him "dapper".
Our 3 year old friend Kitty had a favourite - Paddington Bear! It was a glorious weekend for mid-September and a fabulous turn-out for the event.

More scarecrows!

I think our favourite was Harry Potter, but it was a tough competition!!!

Scarecrow Competition

Our first opportunity to get involved with village life in Soulbury was to enter a Scarecrow in the fund-raising treasure hunt. Our scarecrow was called Pat - Pat Riotic - who was valiantly climbing the flagpole in our front garden to raise the Union Jack! Then we wandered around the village and looked at some of the other scarecrows on display, some of them were awesome! We took a break half way round for homemade scones in the church grounds, and rounded off with a pint in the Boot....

We're back!

For our lovely friends who now reside outside the UK; for the friends who enjoyed the blog of our adventures in New Zealand and Australia; and last but not least, for ourselves, because we had so much fun doing it - here is a blog about our new life "back in the UK" after our 6 month adventure abroad...

Special thanks to Claudia for getting us into blogging in the first place; to our regular contributors (mum, Claudia, Xanthe, auntie Jackie!) who reminded us that someone really was reading our stuff from the other side of the world; and to the friends who dipped into our adventures secretly - then told us how much they'd enjoyed it when we got back!

Here goes then, post number one, pictures next time when I get them downloaded onto the machine...
